• Welcome to Pave the Way

NDIS Participant Readiness and Future Planning - The Future Starts Now.

Pave the Way is funded by the Department of Communities' (Disability Services) to deliver Participant Readiness activities. This aspect of Pave the Way's work will assist Queenslanders with disabilities, their families and carers in the North Coast, North Queensland and Far North Queensland regions to prepare for the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in their area.

We will continue to assist families throughout Queensland to clarify their vision for their family member with a disability and to plan to implement that vision. We encourage planning which is vision driven, ‘whole of life’, developmental, outside service planning and which safeguards family members in the long-term.

NEW CULTURAL PLANNING RESOURCE FOR ABORIGINAL PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY LAUNCHED

First Peoples Disability Network (FPDN) and Mamre have launched a new 'Our Way Planning' resource this week in the Torres Strait Islands. The resource will be used nationally and was officially launched at the NDIS readiness workshops held by Mamre.

The Our Way planning resource was developed in consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living with disability, Elders and community members across NSW, the Northern Territory , Queensland and the Torres Strait Islands.

Uncle Paul Calcott, FPDN said: “The Our Way Planning resource uses the traditional method of art and story telling to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living with disability to identify areas of their life they need assistance with. The book is designed to recognise the importance of culture, community and Country. Our community’s  can use the book in their own way to identify what type of support is needed to help keep them keep strong in their relationships, their family, community and culture.”

For further information regarding the Our Way Planning resources contact FPDN at enquiries@fpdn.org.au   FPDN is the national peak organisation of and for First Peoples with Disability www.fpdn.org.au
